What we are watching on TED

First…a huge thank you to the wonderful individuals who came out to audition this last Saturday to be considered for the next TEDxChandlerPublicLibrary. We were inspired! We look forward to creating this year’s line-up.

Now…while you are waiting for the big announcement, we wanted to share some of our favorite TED Talks. These four talks/performances give us goosebumps, make us pay attention, inspire us to dream and motivate us to dance.

Camille A Brown gives a visual history of social dance in 25 moves

Amanda Palmer pays tribute to David Bowie…with a few special guests

Astronomer Aomawa Shields talks about how we will find life on other planets

Mehdi Ordikhani-Seyedlar tells us what happens in our brains when we pay attention

Can’t Make Our Audition Day?

You really want to audition and be considered for our TEDx, but you can't make it on August 5? While we would rather see you live and in person, we don't want you to miss work, your grandma's 90th birthday or the opportunity to audition for the traveling cast of Hamilton.

We will gladly accept a video audition that is no longer than 10 minutes of introduction and presentation. Send us a link to your video on a google drive or dropbox, along with your bio, in an email to tedx@chandlerlibrary.org by 4 p.m. on Friday, August 4. Include the subject, TEDxChandlerPublicLibrary Audition, in your email.

If we think others will be interested in what you have to say, we will get in touch so you can talk to us in person.

Calling All Idea-Makers and Dreamers

TEDxChandlerPublicLibrary is putting a call out for speakers and performers for its next

event: Connect. In our technology driven, ever-evolving world, we crave connection more than ever before. We connect digitally, virtually, historically, socially, environmentally, architecturally, academically…you get the idea. Share your presentation, idea, talk, performance on connecting.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 5, starting at 9:30 a.m., at Chandler Downtown Library, located at 22 S. Delaware Street, Downtown Chandler.

Registration is required; space is limited. Sign up for your time slot here.

Requirements:

You must be 14 years or older. We welcome teens and adults! If you need equipment or props, bring them with you. Be prepared to share your talent or idea with the panel. Your audition can be no more than 10 minutes. Bring your bio to share with the panel.

NOTE: If you are selected to speak you will need to be available on October 14 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., as well as rehearsal the week before. You will also need to provide a headshot, speaker bio, speaker release form and your powerpoint slides (if applicable to your talk). All speakers will receive coaching sessions to help them hone their talk or performance.
